The Dream Theatre is surrounded by the best of Russell’s local charm—all within easy walking distance. Enjoy a meal at Waudby's Sports Bar & Grill, stay overnight at The Loft, browse for treasures at Palma and Co. Mercantile , find a new favorite read at Russell Specialty Books & Gifts, book a massage at Yoga and Massage of Central Kansas, grab a coffee at Espresso Etc,  or shop the latest styles at The Closet Boutique. We are proud to be the centerpiece of a vibrant downtown experience.

Parking

Convenient parking is available on both sides of Main Street, directly in front of and around the theater.

We strive to make the magic of cinema accessible to everyone. The Dream Theatre offers designated wheelchair-accessible seating within our main auditorium. If you require assistance or have specific requirements during your visit, please reach out to our staff—they are trained to accommodate your needs and enhance your experience.

Wheelchair Access

The Dream Theatre offers designated wheelchair-accessible seating within our main auditorium.

As a preserved 1949 landmark, the Dream Theatre features a unique "Sunken Lounge" situated directly below the center seating section. This beautiful Art Deco lounge houses our restrooms. Please note that while the theater entrance and auditorium are accessible, our restrooms are located down a short flight of stairs within this historic interior feature.

Enhanced Viewing & TheaterEars

We are proud to partner with the TheaterEars app, which allows guests to enjoy select movies in an alternate language right from their own device. To ensure a premium experience for all moviegoers, we ask that you bring your own headphones and use them during the film. Note: A valid movie ticket is required, and you must be inside the building for the app to function.

Help Us Remove Barriers

We are currently raising funds to replace our aging Closed Captioning and Hearing Impaired equipment. Our current systems are failing, and your support will help us ensure every guest can enjoy the story without barriers. Keep every ear tuned in through your donation.

For further inquiries regarding accessibility options, please feel free to contact us.

Safety

IYou can expect a friendly environment with comprehensive safety measures in place. All fire exits are clearly marked, and we strictly adhere to local safety regulations to keep our patrons secure.

The "Kansas Strong" Shelter

In the event of severe weather, the Dream Theatre provides a secure storm shelter in our basement. This area was actually designated as a radiation bomb shelter during the 1950s, offering one of the sturdiest and safest retreats in downtown Russell.

Your comfort and enjoyment are our priorities during your visit to The Dream Theatre.

A Theater for Generations

Our Guest Policy

For over 75 years, the Dream Theatre has been a place where families come together to share the magic of the silver screen. To ensure that every guest—from our youngest moviegoers to our lifelong patrons—enjoys a safe and comfortable environment, we ask that you observe the following family-friendly guidelines:

The Guidelines

For over 75 years, the Dream Theatre has been a place where families come together to share the magic of the silver screen. To ensure that every guest—from our youngest moviegoers to our lifelong patrons—enjoys a safe and comfortable environment, we ask that you observe the following family-friendly guidelines:

  • Growing Together: To ensure a safe experience, we require guests under the age of 16 to be accompanied by an adult (21+). We may kindly ask for an ID to verify age.

  • The R-Rated Experience: To preserve the viewing environment for all, children under 6 are not permitted in R-rated features. Guests must be at least 17, or accompanied by a parent/guardian (21+), to attend.

  • Stay for the Magic: We believe the best memories are made together. We kindly ask that parents and guardians stay with their children throughout the entire feature rather than leaving them unattended.

Honoring the Dream

Respecting Our Shared History

When you walk through our doors, you are stepping into a piece of Kansas history. We invite you to join us in preserving the magic of the Dream by treating our historic building—and your fellow moviegoers—with care.

  • Respect the Space: This theater has stood for generations thanks to the pride our community takes in its beauty. We kindly ask that you help us keep it pristine by disposing of trash in the provided bins and treating our Art Deco fixtures with a gentle hand.

  • Respect the Show: The best cinematic adventures are the ones we experience together. Please keep conversation to a minimum and ensure all mobile devices are silenced and tucked away once the lights go down.

  • Respect the Crew: Our theater is powered by the heart and soul of volunteers. A kind word goes a long way in helping us keep the Dream alive for everyone.

The Full Dream Experience

A Taste of Nostalgia: The Concession Tradition

There is a certain magic that happens the moment you step through our doors. Before the first frame even hits the screen, you are greeted by the unmistakable aroma of fresh, buttery popcorn—the signature scent of a night at the Dream.

In the golden age of cinema, a trip to the theater was a special outing, and the treats were a vital part of that memory. We invite you to immerse yourself in the Full Dream Experience by enjoying our classic concessions. To preserve this tradition and the cleanliness of our historic auditorium, we kindly ask that no outside food or drinks be brought into the theater.

The Heart of the Matter

Every box of popcorn and every soda purchased at our counter goes directly back into the upkeep of our non-profit theater. By snacking with us, you aren't just treating yourself—you’re helping us keep the neon glowing for years to come.
